Farmos

Farmos is a village in the range of Nagykáta, Pest county, Hungary, n the middle of the range adjacent to the agglomeration of Budapest. It can be reached by public road from Nagykáta, Jászberény and Tápiószele. The village has a railway station, on Budapest-Nagykáta-Szolnok railway.

History

The village was first mentioned officially in 1420. In the beginning of the Turkish invasion, it was property of the Mirliva family. In the 17th century, Farmos was mentioned among totally perished villages. About 1700, several families were deployed to the village, who had been hungarianized within a few decades. According to the county record of 1727, the recent area of the village was owned by - among others - Ádám Bene, Boldizsár Kozma, Count and Antal Grassalkovich. In the 19th century it was owned by the Ivánka-Kass-Matolcsy and Vízy families.

Sights

From the railway station, the centre of the village can be reached by Rákóczi Street. The centre is in the meeting-point of Rákóczi, Szelei and Jászberényi streets. There is the village hall, and the monument of heroes in its garden. On Szelei street, we are moving towards the water tower. On a little sloping way, we can soon reach the late Matolcsy mansion. Now a museum of natural sciences is settled here. The Roman catholic church can be reached from the centre by Zrínyi street. Going towards Rákóczi street, after a few hundred meters we reach the start of the educational path. This village has most crane nests in Europe.
