GmbH & Co. KG is a manufacturer ofadhesive products, based inBühl ,Germany . Its companyslogan is "Don't say glue, say UHU!". The company logo is yellow with black lettering and in many markets it includes the German phrase: "Der Alleskleber" (the "all-sticker").History
In 1905,
August Fischer , a dispensingchemist , purchased the chemical factory thatLudwig Hoerth had founded in 1884 with the aim of extended production ofink s,rubber stamp pads,paint s and adhesives. In 1932, Fischer developed a clear syntheticresin adhesive which displayed the ability to affix any material. Following the custom of the time to name products in the writing goods sector after birds, Fischer named the glue UHU (pronounced: 'oo-hoo), after "uhu", the German name for theeagle owl , a bird which at the time could still be found in theBlack Forest .In 1971 Fischer's company, renamed UHU after its leading product, was taken over by the Beecham Group of
England (which subsequently became a part ofGlaxoSmithKline ), but regained control via amanagement buyout in 1989. In 1994 UHU became a totally ownedsubsidiary of theBolton Group , a manufacturer of branded consumer goods.External links
