Ulrick Chérubin

Ulrick Chérubin (born December 24, 1943 in Haiti) is a Canadian politician, who has served as mayor of Amos, Quebec since 2002. He is one of the first Black Canadians to be elected a mayor in Quebec.

The youngest of five children, Chérubin was educated in Haiti and subsequently moved to Canada in 1970 to study education at the Université du Québec à Trois-Rivières. He subsequently taught religion in Cap-de-la-Madeleine, and married Immacula Morriset, a nurse, in 1971. In 1974, the family moved to Amos, where Chérubin continued to teach and also studied administration and English as a Second Language teaching at the Université du Québec en Abitibi-Témiscamingue.

Chérubin first stood for election to Amos City Council in 1994, winning his seat over three other candidates. In 1998, he faced no opposition, and was acclaimed to his second term. He then ran for mayor in 2002, and was elected.
