Sonoma Valley High School (SVHS) is a high school located in Sonoma, California with approximately 1,500 students [ [http://www.sonomavalleyhigh.org/about.html Sonoma Valley High School : About ] ] . Micaela Philpot is the Principal. Glenn Moll, Kathy Summers, and Paul Tuohy are the current Vice Principals. SVHS is the only high school in the Sonoma Valley. It is part of the Sonoma Valley Unified School District.

Academics

Sonoma Valley High School offers several academic classes. The school offers Advanced Placement (AP) courses, consisting of AP Biology, AP Chemistry, AP Physics, AP Calculus, AP Statistics, AP English Language (11th grade) and Literature (12th grade), AP Spanish, and AP Spanish Literature.

Vocational Education

Along with providing the important academic classes, SVHS provides several vocational classes. It is one of the few schools located in Sonoma County that still offers shop programs (Wood and Metal).

Faculty members include: Mr. O'Meara (Chemistry), Mr. Bystrom (Math), Ms. Adams (English), Mr. Donnelley (Economics), Mr. Ross (Math), Ms. Simerly (French), Mrs. Manchester (English), Mr. Moll (Vice Principal), Mrs. Hawing (Spanish).

Controversy was sparked in March, 2008, when the principal, Michaela Philpot, was asked to resign by superintendent, Barbara Dam Right!!! However, on March 15, 2008, the school board withdrew their acceptance of her resignation [ [http://www.sonomanews.com/articles/2008/03/15/news/breaking_news/doc47dc2137c85a0115863589.txt sonomanews.com > News > Breaking News ] ] .
