reegle, “the information gateway for renewable energy and energy efficiency” ( [http://www.reegle.info www.reegle.info] ), was conceptualised in early 2005 when REEEP and its strategic partner REN21 conceived the creation of an information portal on all aspects of clean energy. This project was supported through the governments of [cite web | url=http://www.reegle.info/instructions.20.htm | title=reegle - Partners | accessdate=2008-04-01] :
* United Kingdom (Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs)
* Germany ( [http://www.bmu.de/english/ Federal Ministry for the Environment, Nature Conservation and Nuclear Safety] )
* Netherlands ( [http://www.vrom.nl/ Ministry of Housing, Spatial Planning and the Environment] .

The Search Engine

reegle is a state-of-the-art search engine, allowing fast access to all relevant information sources on renewable energy, energy efficiency and climate change. This high quality information access is addressed to targeted stakeholders, including governments, project developers, business, financiers, NGOs, academia, international organisations and civil society.The system refines and categorises all identified information sources and translates these, via searchable user-friendly features, into the user’s search requirements.

The following areas related to renewable energy and energy efficiency are covered by reegle:
* Jurisdiction & Laws
* Policies & Measures
* Finance & Investment
* Reports & Analyses
* Latest News
* Stakeholders

reegle’s special value derives from REEEP and REN21 experts continuously identifying and reviewing the most relevant and highest-quality information sources, which are then accessible via reegle to all stakeholders. reegle is therefore able to deliver specifically tailored responses to clean energy questions.

Knowledge Partnerships

To accelerate access to such information, reegle also gives direct access to existing databases from core ‘knowledge partners’, that is, highly relevant information providers such as the World Bank, the [http://www.eceee.org/ European Council for Energy Efficient Economy] , the United Nations Industrial Development Organization and the International Energy Agency.

reegle Functions

reegle is made up of three main components: the “Actors Catalogue”, the “Search by category” and the “Intelligent Search”.

Actors Catalogue

reegle’s “Actors Catalogue” is a directory of organisations involved in renewable energy and energy efficiency. It contains information on, and links to, over 1300 [cite web | url=http://www.reegle.info/show-all-available-actors.12.htm | title=reegle - Actors list | accessdate=2008-04-01] initiatives, partnerships and organisations involved in renewable energy and energy efficiency. The Catalogue also includes information about the focus, geographical reach and projects of the various Actors.

Search by Category

reegle’s “Search by category” allows the users to find information on specific sectors, countries and types of information. It makes available a full range of information related to renewable energy and energy efficiency including jurisdiction & laws, policies & measures, finance & investment, reports & analyses and latest news. This information is made available through a special categorisation system.

Intelligent Search

reegle’s “Intelligent Search” provides closely related topics to help the users refine their searches. This feature is based on a "Mind Map" which was created using state of the art technology and derived from interviews conducted with high level experts on sustainable energy. This enables reegle to help the users to broaden or narrow down their searches.
