Chouinard took a more intriguing path to the
National Hockey League than his father. Born in Atlanta during his father's days with the franchise still based in Atlanta, Chouinard has played for Team Canada in international competition despite getting offers to play for Team USA. After scoring 296 points in 180 games with theQuebec Remparts of theQuebec Major Junior Hockey League , he became a 1st-round draft choice (16th overall) by theMontreal Canadiens in the1998 NHL Entry Draft . Since then, he has also played for thePhiladelphia Flyers and theMinnesota Wild , where he played alongside his cousin,Marc Chouinard , during the 2003–04 season.In 2006–2007, Chouinard tried to play in Switzerland for HC Sierre-Anniviers and then in Russia but failed to get a spot with the Lokomotiv due to an injury. He is now playing for the German DEL-Team
