nihongo|Iwate|岩手郡|Iwate-gun is a district located in Iwate, Japan. As of 2003, the district has an estimated population of 142,495. The total area is 2,846.44 km². The district covers the northern part of Morioka Metropolitan Area. The population is declining in all but the village of Takizawa.

There are three towns and one village within the district.

*March 29, 1896 - Kitaiwate and Minamiiwate Districts merged to become Iwate District. (1 town, 24 villages)
*1928年(昭和3年)4月1日 - 米内村盛岡市に編入された。(1町23村)
*1940年(昭和15年)1月1日 - 厨川村が盛岡市に編入された。(1町22村)
*December 23, 1940 - The village of Shizukuishi gained town status. (2 towns, 21 villages)
*1941年(昭和16年)4月10日 - 浅岸村、中野村、本宮村が盛岡市に編入された。(2町18村)
*July 1, 1948 - The town of Kuzumaki and the village of Ekari moved from Kunohe District to Iwate District. (3 towns, 19 villages)
*1954年(昭和29年)4月1日 - 玉山村、薮川村渋民村が合併して玉山村となった。(3町17村)
*1955年(昭和30年)2月1日 - 簗川村が盛岡市に編入された。(3町16村)
*1955年(昭和30年)4月1日(3町12村)
**太田村が盛岡市に編入された。
**雫石町、西山村御明神村御所村が合併して雫石町となった。
*1955年(昭和30年)6月1日 - 巻堀村が玉山村に編入された。(3町11村)
*1955年(昭和30年)7月15日 - 葛巻町、江刈村、二戸郡田部村が合併して葛巻町となった。(3町10村)
*1955年(昭和30年)7月21日 - 沼宮内町御堂村川口村一方井村が合併して岩手町となった。(3町7村)
*1956年(昭和31年)9月30日 - 大更村平館村田頭村寺田村が合併して西根町となった。(4町3村)
*April 1, 2002-The town of Ashiro moved from Ninohe District to Iwate District. (5 towns, 3 villages)
*September 1, 2005-The towns of Ashiro and Nishine, and the village of Matsuo merged forming the city of Hachimantai. (3 towns, 2 villages)
*January 10, 2006-The village of Tamayama was merged into the city of Morioka. (3 towns, 1 village)
