- The Perfect Dystopia
The Perfect Dystopia is an
instrumental rock band from theOttawa ,Ontario ,Canada . Formed in early2003 , the collective plays a style of music that borrows elements fromjazz ,indie rock ,post-rock and hardcore; having been influenced by such bands asMinus the Bear ,Explosions in the Sky ,Cave In ,Converge andRadiohead . Their line up is Jean-Michel Lacombe and Vincent Boisvert on guitars, Maxime Monast on bass and Carl Cléroux on drums. November 23rd2004 saw the release of their independently made recorded debut, the "Straight, No Chaser EP". The record was written, recorded, produced, designed and released by the band over the course of the summer and fall of 2004, with mixing and mastering taken care of by Andrew Tweedy of the greatOttawa hardcore bandBuried Inside .Transition to COAHS
The band changed its name to "
City of a Hundred Spires " in 2005, a move intending to reflect the change in the band's musical style. As it stood, the members felt the band's sound had gone a long way from the mix of genres that defined The Perfect Dystopia's style. The band's new songs showed more cohesion and the political undertone was not present. The decision to change the band's name was made in a small Hull cafe called "Le Petit Chicago".Discography
