Barisal Cadet College

Barisal Cadet College, is a military high school in Rahmatpur, Babuganj, Bangladesh. It is located 12 km from Barisal, beside the Dhaka Barisal highway.

History

Before the independence of Bangladesh, the previous government established four cadet colleges like British public schools. After independence, due to the success of those schools , the Bangladesh Defense Force kept those colleges (which are High schools by American definition) and established eight more Cadet Colleges (three girls and five 5 boys).

Previously, it was Barisal Residential Model College. In 1981 the Bangladesh government declared it as a cadet college. As a cadet college, it consistently has a large number of placements of its alumni in the national armed forces. In addition, it is notable for its results in the national exams at the secondary school and higher secondary level and the placements of its alumni in the national universities.

12 km north of Barisal town beside Dhaka-Barisal highway.

Museum

A museum near the Principal's office has architectural designs of the college, pictures of principals etc.

Hospital

The college has a hospital called Bir Sreshtha Nur Muhammad Hospital for the cadets and the employees. A full time doctor from the Army Medical Corps is appointed along with one qualified assistant. All medicines are provided free of cost. Sick cadets can report at the hospital every morning. The hospital is open 24 hours to accommodate any special needs.

Critical cases are directly referred to the Combined Military Hospital (CMH) in Dhaka Cantonment.

Library

Barisal Cadet College has a library named Bir Sreshtha Abdur Rouf Library, located on the top floor of the administrative building.

Dining Hall

The dining hall is named after Bir Sreshtha Motiur Rahman. All cadets have five meals a day under the supervision of a duty master.

* Quranic Society : members of this society practise Islamic religious activities.
* Bengla Debate & poetry recitation : members of this society practise Bangla debate & poetry recitation. Bengala Debate & poetry recitation.
* English Debate & poetry recitation : cadets practise spoken English, public speaking and English debate.
* Geography Society : cadets learn about Bangladesh's and the world's geography.
* Hiking Club : This club is run by the college adjutant and medical officer.

* Computer Club : There are few computers provided by the college authority.
* First Aid Club
* Wood Work Club
* Music Club where the cadets can practise Tagor songs, nazrul songs, classic songs and band music.

Academic system

Cadets are enrolled in the seventh grade. They continue their study and training for six years. The Higher Secondary Certificate (HSC) is the final examination to complete the graduation.

Each class generally has fifty students. The Secondary School Certificate (SSC) and the Higher Secondary Certificate (HSC) examinations are administered under direct control of the Board of Education of Barisal Division. The teaching medium is English.
