United States Army Air Force training bases inNebraska duringWorld War II . The base was under the command ofSecond Air Force Headquarters,Colorado Springs ,Colorado .The base's primary mission was to provide aircrew training. Between November 1943 and March 1944 the 36th Fighter Group trained at Scribner with Republic P-47 Thunderbolts. After leaving, the 36th FG was assigned to
Ninth Air Force atRAF Kingsnorth England .The base closed on
31 December 1945 . Today the airfield is known as Scribner State Airport (SCB).In addition to a civilian airport the airfield hosts the IHRA drag racing circuit.
