Ann Leslie

Dame Ann Elizabeth Mary Leslie, DBE (born 1940) is a British journalist who currently writes for the "Daily Mail".

Ann Leslie spent her early years in India and Pakistan, before returning to England, where she attended the Presentation Convent School in Matlock, Derbyshire before attending St Leonards-Mayfield school in Sussex and two years later Lady Margaret Hall, Oxford.

Her first job in journalism was on the Daily Express Manchester news desk. She went on to interview many film stars, entertainers and other celebrities and to report on wars, conflicts and political stories in around 70 countries. She has risked danger to her own safety in countries such as Zimbabwe, China and others.

Significant events she has reported on include the fall of the Berlin wall, the failed coup against Mikhail Gorbachev and Nelson Mandela's final walk to freedom.

She has won several British Press Awards and in 1999 was awarded the prestigious James Cameron Award for "an outstanding contribution to journalism". She is also a regular participant in the BBC discussion programme "Head to Head".

She was awarded a Damehood on December 30 2006 for her "services to journalism".
