Phaeodaria

Phaeodaria is a marine-inspired, information-based, lighting installation by Teddy Lo. It represents the underlying energy and information flowing through the heart of Hong Kong. The LEDs are programmed to interactively react to the invisible frequencies and radiations that dominate our life in this information age: from GSM to Bluetooth, 3G to Wi-Fi signals. The installation act as an energy capsule that interplay LEDs with the wireless technology of Hong Kong. Interactivity

1. The motion graphics of the external LEDs are interacting with the heart of the city’s wireless information (GSM, 3G, Wi-Fi). The abstract expression of this rapid information represents the dynamic and resilient energy of local activities.2. “Please turn on your Bluetooth.” Each visitor will be able to participate in a digital symphony with the art piece. The “Frequency” inspired sound is controlled by a custom Bluetooth program which assigns a specific instrument to each visitor.3. Through their movements within the dome space visitors can trigger motion tracking sensors which subsequently control the point source LEDs.
