Ludmila Engquist (Lyudmila Viktorovna Narozhilenko, née Leonowa, _ru. Людмила Викторовна Нарожиленко-Леонова, born
April 21 ,1964 inTambov Oblast ,Russia ) is a former Soviet/Russia n/Swedish athlete who competed in the1988 Summer Olympics (for the Soviet Union), in the1992 Summer Olympics (for theUnified Team ), and in the1996 Summer Olympics (for Sweden).She won gold medals in 100m
hurdles at the 1991 World Championships (for theSoviet Union ) and 1997 World Championships as well as the1996 Summer Olympics inAtlanta . For her 1997 victory inAthens , Engquist received theSvenska Dagbladet Gold Medal , the first non-native Swede to win the honor.In 1999 Enquist was diagnosed with breast cancer. After surgery she stopped chemotherapy after 4 treatments because she did not want the drugs to interfere with her athletic career.
After a successful career she wanted to be the first woman ever to win both the summer and winter Olympics' gold medal by competing in and winning the inaugural two-woman
bobsleigh event at the2002 Winter Olympics , but she was banned from competition after being found guilty of usingbanned drugs , for the second time in her career.She currently lives in
