- Lee Shapiro
Lee Shapiro (1949-1987) was an American
documentary film maker. His one feature length film, "Nicaragua Was Our Home ", was released in 1986. It was filmed inNicaragua among theMiskito Indian s who were then fighting against Nicaraguan government forces. In 1987 Shapiro was killed inAfghanistan while filming with anti-Soviet fighters.Shapiro was a member of the
Unification Church and a graduate of the church'sUnification Theological Seminary , as well as theLondon Film School and the University of Colorado. He also attended medical school at theUniversity of Oklahoma . His film making was supported byCAUSA International , a church-related anti-communist organization. He is survived by his wife Linda Shapiro.
