- Home Media Magazine
"Home Media Magazine" is a weekly trade publication that covers various aspects of the home entertainment industry, most notably DVD. Also covered is news relating to consumer electronics, video games, home video distributors, video-on-demand and Internet downloads of copyrighted content. The magazine includes reviews of new DVDs and commentaries about issues affecting home entertainment.
The magazine was founded in 1979 and was known as "Video Store Magazine" until 2005, when it became "Home Media Retailing." To further its consumer focus, the magazine dropped "Retailing" at the beginning of 2007.
The magazine is based in Santa Ana, California, and is a subsidiary of the Questex Media Group.
In July 2006, "HM" launched a consumer magazine called "Agent DVD," which is intended as a semi-regular periodical focusing on home entertainment news. The first issue debuted at the 2006
Comic Con International in San Diego, California, and focused on titles and news that would appeal to convention-goers. Co-sponsors of the first issue included Warner Home Video, Sony Pictures Home Entertainment, Universal Studios Home Entertainment, 20th Century Fox Home Entertainment and Tower Records and Video. That same year "HM" launched a thrice-yearly publication called "Hollywood Goes High Def" to focus on what were then two rival next-generation, high-definition optical disc formats, Blu-ray Disc and HD DVD. The publication was packaged with "HM" in January, June and September, with bonus distribution at the International Consumer Electronics Show, Home Media Expo and CEDIA. "Hollywood Goes High Def" is now a dedicated Blu-ray Disc magazine, with additional circulation through DealerScope (CE merchants) and Custom Retailer (home theater installers)."HM" also produces the annual Latino DVD Conference, the Home Entertainment Summit, the TV DVD Awards and the High-Def Showcase, four annual industry events supported by the Hollywood movie studios.
"Home Media Magazine" retains a professional alliance with "
The Hollywood Reporter ", which includes an exchange of stories and information, though they are owned by different entities.External links
