- Manikya Dynasty
-
The Kings of Tripura (formerly Twipra) assumed the title of Manikya. The dynasty was of Indo-Mongolian origin and was founded when Ratna Fa (Ratna Manikya) assumed the title in 1280.
The last independent king of the Manikya dynasty was Maharaja Bir Bikram Kishore Manikya, who ruled from 1947 until his death in 2007. He was a minor king until he acceded Tripura to the Union of India on 15 September 1949, becoming one of the last rulers of a princely state to do so.[1]
One of the more famous Manikya rulers was Bir Chandra Manikya Bahadur, in the 19th century.[2]
Maharaja Kirit Pradyot Deb Barman Manikya Bahadur is the current head of the Royal House of Tripura.
