- Andrew Herbert
Andrew Herbert is Managing Director of
Microsoft Research ,Cambridge , UK.Herbert took a BSc degree in computational science at
Leeds University (1975), then worked on "A Microprogrammed Operating System Kernel" for his PhD degree fromCambridge University (1978).His research interests include
computer networking ,operating system s,distributed computing ,programming language s and large-scaledata driven systems.He was an assistant lecturer in the
University of Cambridge Computer Laboratory underMaurice Wilkes andRoger Needham . In 1985, he set up a company,Architecture Projects Management (APM), which led projects to develop ANSA, theAdvanced Network Systems Architecture .He joined Microsoft Research, Cambridge in 2001 and became managing director in April 2003.
Herbert is a member of
UKCRC and anEPSRC Board member. He is a Fellow ofWolfson College, Cambridge , a member ofSt John's College, Cambridge , a Fellow of theBritish Computer Society , aLiveryman of the City of LondonWorshipful Company of Information Technologists , aChartered Engineer andChartered Information Technology Professional .References
