Subtext Magazine

Subtext Magazine

"Subtext" is a nonprofit, independent magazine, published three times annually. Run by volunteers, "Subtext" is a DIY publication the focuses on feminism, politics and culture both in the UK and around the world.

In contrast with conventional women's magazines "Subtext" addresses issues of interest to feminists and people interested in gender issues. Its writers come from a variety of different backgrounds, and many are not trained journalists. By publishing the work of a wide range of people people from different academic and cultural backgrounds, the magazine hopes to give a public forum to many different feminist voices.

History

"Subtext" was founded in October 2005 in the UK by a group of women interested in creating their own independent feminist media. The first issue came out in August 2006.

Other projects

"Subtext" ran a club night to raise money to fund the production of the magazine, and is planning an anthology of creative work which will be published probably in 2008.
