The National Society of Minorities in Hospitality(NSMH) is a non-profit student-run organization in the United States. NSMH was founded at Cornell University in 1989 for the purpose of promoting and ensuring minority success in the fields of hospitality; such as hotel administration, restaurant management, gaming, culinary arts, and related specialties. NSMH presently has over 1000 members in the United States.
The organization was co-founded by four graduates of Cornell University: Michael Burkeen ('92), Evan Frazier ('92), Alfred Watts ('91), and Penelope Wint Urquhart ('92).
NSMH was originally known as the Society of Minority Hoteliers (SMH). The name was changed after the group's first regional conference at Cornell University in 1990.
