William Lawrence Heisey, O.C., M.B.A. (born 1930) is a Canadian businessman and philanthropist. He was president and chairman of
Harlequin Enterprises Limited .Born in
Toronto ,Ontario , he went toLawrence Park Collegiate Institute class of 1948, before receiving a Bachelor of Arts degree fromUniversity of Trinity College and anM.B.A. from theHarvard Business School . He joinedProcter & Gamble in 1954 and left in 1967 to serve as executive Vice President in Sales forStandard Broadcasting . From 1971 to 1982, he was President of Harlequin Enterprises Limited. From 1982 to 1990, he served as Chairman. He served as a director for Aetna Life Insurance Co. of Canada,Business Depot Ltd., andStaples Inc. He has been active in many different organizations. He has been involved with the
Toronto French School where he was a Director from 1966 to 1973, Chairman from 1967 to 1971, and Foundation Trustee from 1978 to 1982. He was a Governor of theBanff Centre from 1982 to 1988. He was a member of the Board of Governors of York University from 1985 to 1997. He was a Director of theCanadian Opera Company from 1984 to 1986. He was a member of the Advisory Board of thePeggy Guggenheim Collection . He was president of theNational Ballet School Foundation.In 1994, he was made an Officer of the
Order of Canada in recognition for being a "leader in Canadian business and philanthropy".References
