- Kocul
Kocul ("Koculi" in Albanian) is a small village in the
District of Vlorë inAlbania . It is one of the oldest archeological sites in southern Albania. Amazingly, it has contributed greatly to the history of Albania:Duro Shaska was one of the founding fathers who signed the independence of Albania (1912),Qazim Koculi was the great hero of theVlora's War (1920) and, briefly, the prime minister of Albania,Sadik Shaska was in the Albanian parlament during 1924-1938, andShezai Rrokaj was the rector of the University of Tirana. Furthermore, internationally known scientistsTanush Shaska ,Eva Koculi andHiqmet Kamberi are from Kocul. Kocul is known to have produced two rektors of universities in Albania;Shezai Rrokaj served as the Rektor of the University of Tirana during the period 1998-2007 andTanush Shaska is currently the Rektor of theUniversity of Vlora (2008- 2008).
