"My House" is the 121st episode of the American situation comedy "Scrubs". It was originally broadcast as Episode 4 of Season 6 on January 4, 2007. This episode contains many references to the TV series House, another medical series.

Plot

Dr. Cox feels like the TV character Gregory House when he has to solve three mysteries. One of the trio is that, while Elliot is angry at Dr. Kelso, who is ignoring her, she for some reason takes it out on Turk. A second concerns a man whose skin is orange; the third, why J.D.'s patient suffered heart failure. It is, in the end, revealed (by Dr. Cox) that Elliot is angry at Turk for his inability to recognize that she has advanced medically, that the orange man got his condition due to a combination of consuming many carrots (which turn the skin yellow) and many tomatoes (which turn it red), and that JD's patient suffers from Takotsubo cardiomyopathy because of the death of her husband. Dr. Cox also takes egotistical pride in figuring out the three situations and comments, "And no, I'm not Superman..." a possible pun on the theme song to Scrubs, "Superman" by Lazlo Bane. The Janitor says he invented a paintball gun which also makes cards, and throughout the episode he tries to shoot paintballs at J.D. He later paints a scene depicting himself killing J.D. on the wall of Elliot's new office.

Meanwhile, Carla has taken an insensitive approach to her husband's financial responsibility, because Turk has to work to keep Carla in the hospital while she can't work and doesn't want to stay home. The doctor says he heard someone crying in that room, but Carla says it was the orange man's wife. In the end it turns out that Carla was the one crying, as she is showing early signs of postpartum depression.

J.D. wishes for Kim to turn down the offer for a different job in Tacoma, WA, but doesn't want to tell her for fear he'll seem too controlling. As a result, he tries to be a better boyfriend in hopes that she'll decide on her own that she doesn't want to leave him. In the end, ironically because he acted so supportively, she takes the job, promising J.D. that they'll stay in touch and stick together.

*The case of an orange man was originally found in the Pilot of "House", although that diagnosis was carrots and large doses of niacin, found in Megavitamins (rather than tomatoes in Scrubs.)
*Dr. Cox's use of a cane after he hurt his foot is in homage to Dr. House's constant use of a cane, due to the partial loss in functionality of his leg. Dr. Cox only uses the cane after a paint can falls on to his foot while Janitor is painting Elliot's new office. Cox also wears sneakers at the same time, which are a recurring feature of Dr. House's wardrobe.
*Dr. Cox's line stating that the orange man "is as orange as an NBA game ball" is a reference to Dr. House's use of sports analogies to describe assorted ailments to his team.
*Flashbacks to important scenes in the episode are made while Dr. Cox presents the evidence behind his diagnoses, similar to House's summation scenes. This is largely a parody of "House" as Dr. Cox's revelations seem to be particularly obvious.
*Dr. Cox presents Carla and Dr's. Dorian & Turk with the facts regarding the mysterious symptoms in the same manner that Dr. House questions Dr's. Cameron, Foreman, and Chase.
*Dr. Cox stumbles upon the diagnosis of the orange man seemingly by coincidence, inspired by the sight of yellow and red paint mixing on the floor. This mirrors similar events in many House episodes where the final diagnosis is made after Dr. House has a flash of inspiration often brought on by witnessing a mundane event.
* Dr. Cox's diagnosis of Broken Heart Syndrome was also a diagnosis of a patient in "House".
* The flashbacks feature a slightly skewed color spectrum that emphasizes yellow and orange and de-saturates the other colors, which was a filter used heavily in the Pilot of "House".
