Lloyd International Airways was a British charter airline from 1961 to 1972.
History
The airline was formed in 1961 with one Douglas DC-4 to operate charters for ship crews between the United Kingdom and the Far East. The airline soon found other charter work for the aircraft and bought two more DC-4s in 1962 and a Douglas DC-6 in 1964.
The airline re-equipped with turboprop equipment from 1965 with the introduction of the Bristol Britannia. The Britannias we used for both freight and passenger charters. A Boeing 707 was obtained in 1970 to operate inclusive tour flights across the North Atlantic and to the Far East. Another two 707s were introduced in 1971.
The transatlantic flights were not profitable and the airline ceased operations on 16 June 1972.
