"Schizoglossa gigantea", is a species of large predatory, air-breathing, land slug; a carnivorous terrestrial pulmonate gastropod mollusc in the family Rhytididae, which also contains the genera Powelliphanta and Rhytida.

This slug has a small shell which covers only its viscera.

Distribution

This slug is endemic to the central eastern part of the North Island of New Zealand.

hell description

The shell is similar to "Schizoglossa novoseelandica" but larger and more depressed, especially at the spire end, which is flattened to a carinated edge.

The shell length is up to 32 mm, width of 19 mm, and thickness of 6 mm.
