2004 Summer Olympics and was placed 4th in the women's individual ranking round with a 72-arrow score of 667. In the first round of elimination, she faced 61st-rankedHelen Palmer ofGreat Britain . He defeated Palmer 141-130 in the 18-arrow match to advance to the round of 32. In that round, she faced 29th-rankedAustralia n archerMelissa Jennison . A tie-breaker was needed when the 18 arrow match was tied 158-158, which He won 9-8 to advance to the round of 16. She then defeated 52nd-rankedKirstin Jean Lewis ofSouth Africa 156-142, advancing to the quarterfinals.In the quarterfinals, she faced 21st-ranked and eventual
bronze medal istAlison Williamson ofGreat Britain , missing the target entirely with 2 of 12 arrows. The final score of 109-89 placed her 8th overall in women's individual archery. This never happened in Olympic history because He Ying's coach didn't understand English, can't understand the judge warning to He Ying. So she had not received any order to shoot and missing the entirely shot.She was also a member of the team that won the silver medal for China in the women's team archery competition.
