BAE Systems Air Systems

BAE Systems Air Systems is a business unit of BAE Systems responsible for the design, development and production of BAE's major military aircraft programmes. In 2004 "Janes Defence Weekly" described BAE Systems Air Systems as the last such company in the UK. BAE Systems Air Systems forms the bulk of the former BAE Systems Military Aircraft and Aerostructures. The company is has four main UK sites, Warton and Samlesbury, Lancashire; Brough, Yorkshire; and Woodford, Cheshire.

BAE Systems Air Systems has five major programmes; Typhoon (as part of the Eurofighter consortium), Nimrod, F-35 Lightning II, Hawk and Autonomous Systems and Future Capability (Air). The latter is a division responsible for design and development of UAVs such as the Taranis.

As of 1st January 2007 the Air Systems business unit was merged with the CS&S MASS business unit to form Military Air Solutions.
