Azhdarcho ") is agenus of azhdarchoidpterodactyloid pterosaur . It was found in theAptian -ageLower Cretaceous Jiufotang Formation ofChaoyang ,Liaoning , China. It is based on GMN-03-11-02, a partial skeleton and lower jaw, and is distinguished from other pterosaurs by the proportions of its bones. It was relatively small by azhdarchid standards, with awingspan of about 1.6 meters (5.2 feet). Its describers first assigned it to the Azhdarchidae, and compared it to "Azhdarcho",cite journal |last=Lü |first=Junchang |coauthors=and Qiang Ji |year=2005 |title=New azhdarchid pterosaur from the Early Cretaceous of western Liaoning |journal=Acta Geologica Sinica |volume=79 |issue=3 |pages=301–307 ] but later, after a cladistic analysis, suggested that it was more basal than Azhdarchidae proper, but was still in the same superfamily.cite journal |last=Lü |first=Junchang |coauthors=and Qiang Ji |year=2006 |title=Preliminary results of a phylogenetic analysis of the pterosaurs from western Liaoning and surrounding area |journal=Journal of the Paleontological Society of Korea |volume=22 |issue=1 |pages=239–261 |url=http://cactus.dixie.edu/jharris/Lu&Ji_ptero_phylogeny.pdf |accessdate=2007-03-10 ] Lü, Unwin and colleagues later placed in in a family of basal azhdarchoids, theChaoyangopteridae .Lü, J., Unwin, D.M., Xu, L., and Zhang, X.
