Banwari Lal Joshi

Banwari Lal Joshi (born 27 March 1936) has been the Governor of the Indian state of Uttarakhand since October 2007. Previously, he served as Lieutenant-Governor of Delhi from 2004 to 2007 and as Governor of Meghalaya in 2007.

Joshi was born in the remote Choti Khatu village of Nagour, Rajasthan. He was the 18th Lieutenant-Governor of Delhi. He graduated from the Scottish Church College, Calcutta. After that he earned a degree in law from the University Law College of the University of Calcutta.

He started his career in 1957 with IPS. He worked for the Intelligence Bureau on various areas like the Interpol, Counterfeiting, Narcotics, Industrial Security, United Nations Correctional Work and Juvenile Delinquency. He worked in the PMO with Lal Bahadur Shastri and later with Indira Gandhi for over four years. He also served the Ministry of External Affairs as the First Secretary in High Commissions of India at Islamabad and London and as Head of Chancery in the Embassy of India at Washington D.C..

Joshi was appointed Governor of Uttarakhand on August 19 2007.
