Career

He returned to the republic for Alania Vladikavkaz in the mid of 2001 season, after the left of coach Valery Gazzaev. He played until the end of 2003 season. In 2007 season, he moved to FC Kuban Krasnodar, move out from the shadow of Igor Akinfeev. Despite having himself a good season, FC Kuban was relegated at the end of the 2007 season.

International career

Vladimir played his first match for Russia national football team on August 22, 2007 against Poland in friendly and was substituted by Anton Shunin in the half-time. Then he was chosen to play in a vital match against England, likely due to that Igor Akinfeev was injured and Vyacheslav Malafeev was in poor form at the time. If Russia would have lost the match, it would have made qualification impossible. In a dramatic 2-1 comeback, a home victory over England on October 17, 2007, he made key saves to keep Russia in the game at 0-1, in a match they were able to turn around in the second half.
