Radomír Šimůnek, Sr.

Radomír Šimůnek, Sr.

Radomír Šimůnek, Sr. (born 8 April 1962 in Pilzen) is a former Czech racing cyclist who mainly participated in cyclo-cross. Šimůnek's son, Radomír Šimůnek, Jr. is also a cyclo-cross cyclist.

During the communistic regime he became amateur World Champion twice, but was unable to become a professional cyclist. The money he made during international matches in Belgium and the Netherlands were paid to the Czechoslovakia Cycling Union and Šimůnek did not receive the money he achieved. The fall of the Berlin Wall finally allowed him to become a professional, which resulted in a World title at the 1991 World Championships in Gieten.
