Radomír Šimůnek, Sr. (born
8 April 1962 inPilzen ) is a former Czechracing cyclist who mainly participated incyclo-cross . Šimůnek's son,Radomír Šimůnek, Jr. is also a cyclo-cross cyclist.During the communistic regime he became amateur World Champion twice, but was unable to become a professional cyclist. The money he made during international matches in
Belgium and theNetherlands were paid to theCzechoslovakia Cycling Union and Šimůnek did not receive the money he achieved. The fall of theBerlin Wall finally allowed him to become a professional, which resulted in a World title at the 1991 World Championships inGieten .Honours
