Walter C. Carter (
1929-04-08 –2002-01-20 ) was a Canadian politician.Born in
Greenspond, Newfoundland and Labrador , he was deputy mayor ofSt. John's, Newfoundland and Labrador and was elected to theNewfoundland and Labrador House of Assembly . He was first elected to the Canadian House of Commons for the riding ofSt. John's West in the 1968 federal election. A Progressive Conservative, he was re-elected in 1972 and 1974. He tried to return to federal politics as a Liberal but was defeated in 1979 and 1984. He was again elected to the Newfoundland and Labrador House of Assembly and was Minister of Fisheries in the cabinets ofFrank Moores ,Brian Peckford andClyde Wells . He retired in 1996.His memoir, "Never a Dull Moment" (Creative Publishers, ISBN 1-894294-00-9), was published in 1998.
