Probucol lowers the level of cholesterol in the bloodstream by increasing the rate of LDL catabolism. Probucol is a powerful antioxidant which inhibits the oxidation of cholesterol in LDLs; this slows the formation of foam cells, which contribute to atherosclerotic plaques.
