Albert Evans-Jones

Albert Evans-Jones (April 14 1895 – January 26 1970), more commonly known within Wales by his bardic name of "Cynan", was a Welsh poet and dramatist.

Cynan was born in Pwllheli, where his father was the proprietor of the Central Restaurant in Penlan Street. He was educated at Pwllheli Grammar School and the University College of North Wales. In addition to his writing, he was an extramural lecturer in Anglesey, a lay preacher and an actor.

Cynan was Archdruid of the National Eisteddfod of Wales from 1950 to 1953, and again from 1963 to 1967. Like all holders of the position, he had himself been a winner of the major prizes at the National Eisteddfod, winning the crown in 1921, 1923 and 1931, and the chair in 1924.
