Sir John Houstoun of that Ilk, 2nd Baronet, was Member of Parliament for Renfrewshire, and succeeded his father, Sir Patrick Houstoun, 1st Baronet of that Ilk, in 1696.
Sir John married Lady Anne (b. 3 March 1671), daughter of John Drummond, 1st Duke of Melfort, and left a son and successor, Sir John Houston, 3rd Baronet of that Ilk, M.P.
