"Powelliphanta traversi koputaroa ", known as one of the amber snails, is a subspecies of large, carnivorous land snail, a terrestrial pulmonate gastropod mollusc in the family Rhytididae.

Distribution

This subspecies is endemic to the North Island of New Zealand. It is found only at Koputaroa, near Levin.

hell description

The shell coloration is plain yellowish-olive, slightly tinged with chestnut on the dorsal surface and with a patch of the same colour in and surrounding the umbilicus. The spiral lines are subobsolete, except for a few dark bands at the periphery.

The shell diameter is up to 53 mm, and height up to 27 mm.

Conservation status

"Powelliphanta traversi koputaroa" is classified by the New Zealand Department of Conservation as being "Nationally Endangered".
