John Simon (record producer)

John Simon (born August 11, 1941 in Norwalk, Connecticut) is an American musician, record producer, and composer. He is best known for his work with The Band as producer and musician on "Music from Big Pink" and "The Band".

Simon began his career with Columbia Records, where he produced music for a wide variety of acts. Among his early production credits are the 1966 No. 2 hit song "Red Rubber Ball" by The Cyrkle. He also produced "Cheap Thrills" by Big Brother and the Holding Company and "Child Is Father to the Man" by Blood, Sweat & Tears, among many other albums, and has recorded as a solo artist.

Simon also played the sousaphone bass line in "Rag Mama Rag"
