- Carneal House
The Carneal House is located at 405 East Second Street in
Covington, Kentucky . It is Covington's oldest surviving house, built in 1815. It was built byThomas D. Carneal , a founder of Covington. It is a two-story brick home with arched windows built in the style ofAndrea Palladio . Carneal had Elmwood Hall built in 1818 (Ludlow, Kentucky ), which was then known as Hygeia .Later, the home was purchased by
William Wright Southgate , aCongressmen fromNorthern Kentucky . He added a large wing circa 1835 for his large family. The home is now located in theLicking-Riverside Historic District in Covington.References
