variants with their own articles = TheAntonov An-71 (NATO reporting name : "Madcap") was a SovietAWACS aircraft intended for use on theaircraft carrier "Admiral Kuznetsov". Its design was based on An-72 'Coaler'. Development never progressed past the prototype stage, the first of which flew onJuly 12 ,1985 . It was rejected in favor of the Yak-44, which in turn was cancelled along with thesupercarrier "Ulyanovsk" after the collapse of the Soviet Union.Operators
