variants with their own articles = The Antonov An-71 (NATO reporting name: "Madcap") was a Soviet AWACS aircraft intended for use on the aircraft carrier "Admiral Kuznetsov". Its design was based on An-72 'Coaler'. Development never progressed past the prototype stage, the first of which flew on July 12, 1985. It was rejected in favor of the Yak-44, which in turn was cancelled along with the supercarrier "Ulyanovsk" after the collapse of the Soviet Union.
