Jankov Most

Jankov Most (Јанков Мост) is a village in Serbia. It is located in the Zrenjanin municipality, in the Central Banat District, Vojvodina province. The village has a Romanian ethnic majority and its population numbering 636 people (2002 census).

History

First time mentioned in 1221. under name Iancahid (translated from Hungarian) Jankov Most. Banatian historic Feliks Mileker from Vršac wrote that Dezideriu, episkop of diocesan of Cenada, left Itebejs Parish and that he traveled throughout Iancahid. Jankov Most is one of oldest settlements in Zrenjanin municipal. In writen sources from XIV century, he was known as "Passin Jankait". 1660.year, it was mentioned that 3 settlements of Romanians and Ortodox Serbs are in this area: Jancait, Multvelin i Pessin Jancait. Later in XVIII century village is called "Negy Jankahid" and "Kiss Jankahid", and in middle of this century name was "Baschin Jankahid". In middle XVIII century, 1747. village was colonized by Romanians from vale of Moriš (Erdelj). They came from village Bešenova, and one of proofs of this is that most of inhabitants in Iancahid have surname Besu. Village Jankov Most was, during years property of many landlords. In the year 1781. village and pasture near was bought by count Lazar Lukač, who bought village Ečka also. 1838. village becomes property of Lazar Žigmond, and after that count Hernonkur.
