Fortnightly Rubbish Collections

Fortnightly Rubbish Collections

Fortnightly rubbish collections are a controversial system of collecting rubbish in the United Kingdom which have steadily been introduced by many local authorities since 2005, allegedly as a means of encouraging householders to recycle their rubbish. Whereas some view the measure as an environmentally friendly move, others argue that the local authorities concerned have simply introduced the measure as a means of cutting costs, using the recycling issue as a convenient excuse for its introduction. Those who hold this view also contend that the measure constitutes a health hazard as the fortnightly collection create a build up of rotting rubbish which attract maggots, rodents and other forms of vermin.
