History
The 3rd Infantry Division was a military formation of the Republic of Korea Army during the 20th Century. The Division consisted of the 18th, 22nd and 23rd Regiments. [ [http://www.globalsecurity.org/military/world/rok/3id.htm 3rd Infantry Division] ]
Was under direct control of the Republic of Korea Army after the first fall of Seoul.
Was part of the defensive line to slow the North Korean advance from Seoul to Taejon.
Fought in the Battle of Pusan Perimeter. [ [http://www.army.mil/cmh-pg/brochures/KW-Outbreak/outbreak.htm The Korean War: The Outbreak] ]
After the breakout from the Pusan Perimeter, fierce battles were fought in the harbor village of P’ohang-dong between the 3rd Division and the NKPA’s 5th Division. The 3rd finally captured the village during the morning of the twentieth. They continued to attack aggressively, forcing a disorderly withdrawal by the NKPA toward Yongdok.
