Raghupathi Venkaiah

Raghupathi Venkaiah Naidu was a pioneer in the Indian film industry. He began his career as a photographer in Chennai.He was the owner of Gaiety Cinema Thatre in Chennai which was one of the first few permanent theatres in Chennai.The Ownership of theate had changed subsequently. He died in 1941 in abject poverty after selling all of his properties. The Andhra Pradesh state government honored him by establishing the Raghupathi Venkaiah Award for lifetime contributors to the Telugu movie industry.His son Raghupathi Prakash was trained in cinematogrpahy in England.Raghupathi Venkaiah and his son Prakash made their maiden movie "Meenakshi Kalyanam".It was shot around actual locations of Madurai Meenakshi temple.
