Securities & Investment Institute

The Securities & Investment Institute (SII) is a City of London-based professional body for those who work in the financial and investment industry.

It states its mission as: “to set standards of professional excellence and integrity for the securities and investments industry providing qualifications and promoting the highest level of competence to our members, other individuals and firms”.

The SII was formed in 1992 as the Securities Institute by the members of the London Stock Exchange. It changed its name to the Securities and Investment Institute in November 2004.

Based in the City of London at the heart of the world’s leading international market place and with offices in China, India, Singapore, Dubai and Dublin, SII’s investment qualifications offer individuals the opportunity to achieve core competence and foster strong careers. Building and maintaining professionalism and trust underpins all SII’s activities for its students and members.

The Institute offers qualifications, training and industry membership for over 42,000 City professionals. As the main examining body for the industry, the Institute provides vocational qualifications. Over 40,000 SII qualifications are taken every year at Computer Based Test (CBT) centres worldwide.

Many successful SII candidates then become Institute members, to benefit from SII’s Continuing Professional Development (CPD) scheme. The SII CPD scheme has been introduced to enable members to remain competent and professional. The scheme has been designed to ensure that all members, regardless of seniority, geographical location and industry specialisation are capable of meeting the recommended minimum annual commitment of 35 hours of CPD. SII produces publications and workbooks, runs conferences and seminars and in-house training courses.

SII membership also carries prestige and responsibilities, such as the adherence to its global Code of Conduct, aimed at promoting investor trust and confidence. SII also provides thought leadership in the field of integrity, providing practical guidance through case studies.

The Securities & Investment Institute is a registered charity and has the following charitable objects:

"To promote, for the public benefit, the advancement and dissemination of knowledge in the field of securities and investments to develop high ethical standards for practitioners in securities and investments and to promote such standards in the UK and overseas to act as an authoritative body for the purpose of consultation and research in matters of education or public interest concerning investment in securities."
