His Lordship the Most Reverend Dr. Philip Boyce (born 25 January, 1940), D.D., is the Roman Catholic Lord Bishop of the Diocese of Raphoe, Ireland [ http://www.catholic-hierarchy.org/bishop/bboyce.html - Ordination of Bishop Boyce] .

Early life

He was born in Downings, a village on the Rosguill Peninsula of north County Donegal, part of the Province of Ulster in Ireland. He was educated at Derryhassen school in Meevagh parish and at Castlemartyr College, County Cork. Then in 1959 he joined the noviciate of the Discalced Carmelites in Loughrea, County Galway.

Religious career

He was ordained a priest on 17 April, 1966 for the Order of Discalced Carmelites and was appointed bishop of Raphoe on 29 June, 1995. He was enthroned as bishop on 1 October, 1995. The Principal Consecrator was Cardinal Mejía; his Principal Co-Consecrators were Archbishop Emanuele Gerada and Séamus Hegarty the retiring bishop of the diocese.
