Silas Betton

Silas Betton (August 26, 1768 – January 22, 1822) was a United States Representative from New Hampshire. He was born in Londonderry, New Hampshire. He studied under a private tutor, and was graduated from Dartmouth College, Hanover, New Hampshire in 1787. He studied law and was admitted to the bar and commenced practice in Salem, New Hampshire in 1790.

Betton was a member of the New Hampshire House of Representatives 1797–1799 and a member of the New Hampshire Senate 1801–1803. He was elected as a Federalist to the Eighth and Ninth Congresses (March 4, 1803–March 3, 1807). After Congress, he resumed the practice of law and again a member of the New Hampshire House of Representatives in 1810 and 1811. He also served as high sheriff of Rockingham County 1813–1818. He died in Salem, New Hampshire in 1822 and was buried in Old Parish Cemetery, Center Village, Salem, New Hampshire.
