The forest of Fontainebleau is an important forestland of
France , lying 60 km southeast ofParis . It has an area of 280 km² (108 sq mi) and is located primarily in thearrondissement of Fontainebleau in the southwestern part of the department ofSeine-et-Marne . Most of it lies in thecanton of Fontainebleau , although parts of it extend into adjoining cantons and even as far west as the city ofMilly-la-Forêt in neighboringEssonne department.
