This film stars Uday Kiran & Reema Sen in the lead roles and marked the debut of the lead actors. The film is produced by Ramoji Rao and has music composed by R.P. Patnaik. The film was released as Chithiram in Tamil in 2001 with the film mostly featuring scenes dubbed from the original although scenes involving Manivannan and Senthil were added. Chitram and Nuvve Kavali were the 2 movies which set a trend of college campus romance stories in the same year. on.[1]. The movie was also remade in Kannada as Chitra, starring Prabhu deva's brother Nagendra Prasad Sundaran and Rekha Vedhavyas in 2001 under the direction of Dinesh Baboo and the production on Ramoji Rao. The whole movie was the same as chitram except for the climax. The movie was a superhit in kannada and marked the debut of the lead actors.
Plot
Janaki (Reema Sen) along with her sister are USA returned NRI who want to join a PU college in AP. Janaki puts up her stay with her uncle and procures the admission in the same college of Ramana (Uday Kiran) is a die-hard music fan when janaki first sees her in the music room practicing they get attracted to each other. family members of Ramana away Janaki happens to come to Ramana house wearing a saree. As she does not know how to wear saree, all she does is drape it around her slithe body. Ramana offers to teach her how to wear a saree. In the process they have physical relationship. After a few days Janaki informs Ramana that she is pregnant. Ramana along with his friends spots a nurse to do the dirty job of doing abortion to Janaki. When Ramana asks Janaki to prepare for the abortion, she refuses to do so as she says she wants a company of a kid as her mother used to tell her the when she dies she will be re-born again in Janaki's womb whenever Janaki would make a fuss to eat. Janaki is then told by the college Principal to take rest and write the exam next year.When Ramana's parents talk to Janaki's uncle he puts the blame on Ramana. But soon Ramana and Janaki move into a new house and Ramana gets a job as a guitar player in a club. One fine day Janaki's water breaks and she delivers a child in the hospital in the time of Ramana's exams on which he can't concentrate and can't write anything. At hat time his lecturer tells him to study well as he has not done well in the previous tests also. But Janaki expects him to help her out in taking care of the baby. Ramana starts getting fed up of Janaki and the baby and starts refusing to change the baby's diaper and even to take care of the baby for a minute when Janaki is in the kitchen. At this time Ramana loses his job in the club. And also Janaki questions him about his behaviour. Now angry Ramana shouts and abuses Janaki that she said the she needs company to forget her parents and so she spoit his life. And that she was the main cause for spoiling his future and career. The next day when Ramana is writing his examination, Janaki brings the baby in a basket, approaches Ramana and leaves the baby in the exam hall and runs away to make Raman understand the difficulty of raising a baby alone. The invigilator holds the crying baby until Ramana has finished. Then Ramana takes the baby and goes home and feels bad about abusing Janaki and takes good care of the baby. One day when he is sleeping the baby disappears and Ramana goes searching for the child all over the city. But comes back home worried without finding the baby then suddenly Janaki returns home with the baby and Ramana apologises to her and she also says sorry and says that she took away the child to find out how much he loves the child. And gives a news that she is pregnant again with another child and in the ending the couple walk to college with the baby in the basket. The whole movie was a narration.
