The Pennsylvania Museum and School of Industrial Art (PMSIA) was chartered by the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania on February 26, 1876. This was in response to the Centennial International Exhibition held in Philadelphia that year.
Today the school is known as University of the Arts and the museum is known as the Philadelphia Museum of Art.
