- Tymes 4
Tymes 4 were a four piece girl band from London. they have released two albums and three singles. Their first single was called 'Bodyrock' and was released in August 2001 in the
United Kingdom , it was promoted around the UK, appearing on many different TV shows and doing a mini tour around selected schools in the UK. The track reached #23 in the uk and stayed in the top 100 for two months. Their second single was entitled 'She Got Game' and again was promoted on many different TV shows including charity TV show BBC Children in need and Live And Kicking, this didn't fair so well in the charts as their previous single but just made the top forty at #40 in December 2001 and spent just three weeks in the top 100, but the full crew remix did go to #1 on the London based radio station KISS 100 FM smooth grooves chart. The band went very quiet for about six months but returned in mid 2002 with some news that band member Holly James (Name Was Holly Mallet at the time of being in the band) left the band as she wanted to go solo and do other things e.g. acting. They quickly found another member called Leah Tribe, and they got back to work. In mid 2002 they re-released their debut single 'Bodyrock' in europe with a new cover and new remixes, one of the remixes called 'Bodyrock (Full Crew R'N'B Remix)' had totally different lyrics than the original. The re-release of bodyrock was a flop in Europe and didn't chart. The band then disappeared for a while but returned in April 2003 with a new single 'Hooked', the track was co written by band member Taymah Gaye and was released later that month after a heavy promotion campaign in Holland, they appeared on top of the pops and the box their. The track did not set the charts alight but did make the dutch top 100 at #69. Many people thought this would be the end of the band, but it wasn't as they released their debut album '4 Story' two weeks later, featuring 12 tracks with 9 of them being co written by the band. The album featured many different styles from pop to r'n'b to dance to hip-hop. The album never charted their but was great to finally hear an album after two years of being together in the industry. The band decided to concentrate on the Japaneses market where they signed a million pound contract with avex records which is one of the biggest labels in japan, they re-released their album in Japan/Asia in October 2003 which featured five bonus tracks including a brand new track 'Look At Me Now' which was sung by newest member Leah Tribe, proving she can sing.
Yet again the band went quiet but returned over a year later in January 2005 with a 2nd album called 'The Covers' which featured 12 classic r'n'b covers from the likes of Mariah Carey, Michael Jackson, Phil Collins, R Kelly, TLC, Toni Braxton and many more. Sadly the band then split as they felt they weren't going anywhere and went their separate ways. Ex member Holly James guest vocaled on a track by Jason Nevins called 'I'm In Heaven' this was a huge club hit in 2003 and entered the charts at #9 in the UK and spent almost three months in the top 100. Holly also had a 2nd club hit in 2004 called 'Touch It' which was a cover of US Singer Monifa's top 30 uk hit from 1998, the single was only released on record in the UK but was released on cd too in the U.S. and made it to #3 in the U.S. dance chart. More recently ex member Melissa Garrick guest vocaled on a track by UK Dance group Supafly called 'Moving Too Fast' in 2006 and was a massive summer club hit and reached #23 in the uk singles chart and spent 9 weeks in the top 100, seven of them being in the top 75. Ex member Taymah Gaye teamed up with member Leah Tribe in 2003 to record a track called 'Right Now' which got them into the final ten on a BBC Urban talent contest hosted by Trevor Nelson, but Taymah has now given up music and become a mum with her first baby, while Leah is getting ready to release some solo material after recording tracks in a studio according to her my space page. The last member Natalie Edwards has opend up her own shop called Brided Boutique in her home town Bourmouth, she is also looking to release some solo material in 2007. There is going to be a New EP available to download in 2007 called '4 Reasons' by Tymes 4 featuring rare material so watch out.
