Tolleshunt Major

Tolleshunt Major is a small village approximately 5 miles north east of Maldon Town,(Maldon District Council) in the county of Essex, UK. Its only streets are Beckingham Street, Bakers Lane, Mill Lane, Witham Road, Tudwick Road and Tolleshunt D'Arcy Road, all situated within the built up part of the village, which consists of just over 100 dwellings.

The village's parish boundaries stretch as far as Little Totham, taking in parts of Saywers Lane and Plains Road. Other rural parts of the village include Church Road to the east, Tudwick Road to the North, Sawers Lane and Plains Road to the west, Church Road, parts of Scraley Road, Wash Lane and Bakers Green to the south. In addition Tolleshunt Major is host to The Beckingham Business park which has a small number of businesses ranging from a transport company to a sports equipment manufacturing company. There are no shops, street lights, mains gas supply or bus service in the village but it does have a pub, known as the Beckenham Bell. Although the village is not on any main road, but it is bordered by the villages of Little Totham, Goldhanger, Tolleshunt D'Arcy, Tolleshunt Knights and Great Totham North & South. It is none the less very central to major towns such as Maldon (5ml), Colchester (11ml) Chelmsford (14ml)and Tiptree (4ml). There are also 4 Golf Courses within a 5 mile radius and several dozens of country walks, including Sea Wall walks along the River Blackwater estuary (Nearest point Goldhanger 2ml and Tollesbury 4ml). For the fishing enthusiast there are several lakes such as Chigborough, Tolleshunt D'arcy Road (Maldon Angling Club)as well as sea fishing.
